Choosing a bed

Most beds should be replaced every 8 - 10 years. An old bed may look fine, but after so many years of use, the fillings and springs would not be supporting you as well as they should be.

Yesboleh Buying Tips :

Firstly, work out how much you can afford to spend.

When choosing a bed, measure your existing bed at home. Can you fit a larger bed in the room ? The more space you have the better.

Do you need extra storage? Most divan beds are available with drawers, although it costs a little more, it may be worth it.

Unless absolutely necessary, try to buy a complete divan bed, keeping your existing base could reduce the lifespan of your new mattress.

If you suffer from back problems, mention this when you are looking for a new bed. The sales person can then advise you on firmer or more supportive mattresses

Grandmother story on Chinese superstitions

This is the story from my grandmother regarding Chinese superstitions. Here is
a list of weird and uncommon superstitions as practiced by the Chinese until today.
Some are true but most are funny to believe.

Here are some examples of Chinese superstitions:

Hitting others with a broom will result in bad luck for many years to come.
Brooms are to be kept during the Chinese New year period and no sweeping of the house is allowed because this will result in bad luck and loss of wealth for the household.
Wearing a moustache and not shaving will bring about bad luck. This belief is contrary to the common portrayal of Chinese in the olden times.
Cutting or trimming one's nail at night is not encouraged as this practice will attract wandering spirits to one.
Dogs are believed to be able to see ghosts and spirits due to the fluid in their eyes. By applying this fluid over one's eyes, one can actually see ghosts. This is how temple medium see ghosts.
When dogs howl for long periods at the wee hours of the mornings, this signifies death in the surrounding area.
Babies can also sense spirits. When they sense 'unclean' spirits, they will wail without reason.
When one dreams of teeth or snow, it means death of one's parent.
Pointing at the moon will result in one's ears to be cut off. (This belief appears to be most fictious, mainly because the result does not happen. However, parents continue to pass on this belief as they often use this story to scare their children.
What are some of the wedding superstitions?

A Chinese is not allowed to marry anyone with the same surname. The Chinese also prohibit marriage between cousins who are closely related. They believe that the offspring of such marriage will be retarded. However, marriage between cousins still occurs. Such marriage are arranged so as to strengthen family ties and to ensure that the family wealth does not fall into the hand of the outsiders. If in the unfortunate event that a relative of either party dies before the wedding day, the wedding must be postponed for a year. It is improper to hold a wedding while still in mourning.

A Chinese man is advised not to marry a girl without pubic hair. The reason is that
she may not be fertile and thus produce no offspring.
The Chinese refer to pubic hair using various poetic terms, including "black rose," "fragrant grass," "sacred hair," or "moss." Women without any pubic hair are known as "white tigers"; black pubic hairs are said to indicate a strong and obstinate woman; brown with golden tints are the sign of an easy and generous woman; and fine, silky, short hair is said to mean quiet and retiring [and bushy hair indicates a passionate woman]. In the Chinese culture, upward growth of a woman’s pubic hair is considered a sign of beauty; and abundant hair is regarded as a sign of sensuality and passion.

Barcode yourself

A barcode (also bar code) is a machine-readable representation of information in a visual format

on a surface. Originally barcodes stored data in the widths and spacings of printed parallel lines, but today they also come in patterns of dots, concentric circles, and hidden within images. Barcodes can be read by optical scanners called barcode readers or scanned from an image by special software. Barcodes are widely used to implement Auto ID Data Capture (AIDC) systems that improve the speed and accuracy of computer data entry.

The first barcode was developed in 1948 by two graduate students at Drexel Institute of Technology, Bernard Silver and Norman Joseph Woodland. They filed for a U.S. patent in October 1949 and it was granted in 1952. Its implementation was made possible through the work of Raymond Alexander and Frank Stietz, two engineers with Sylvania, as a result of their work on a system to identify railroad cars (who were also granted a patent). It was not until 1966 that barcodes were put to commercial use and they were not commercially successful until the 1980s.

What dogs can do?

Now, dog could help the disables to withdraw cash. Cool eh..
They might not be able to help if you forget your Pin, but these dogs can get your money
out without paws-ing for thought.
The pooches are among an army of 'assistance dogs' who have been trained to withdraw
money from cash machines for their disabled owners.
They are adept at inserting and withdrawing cards at ATMs to help owners in wheelchairs
who are often not able to stretch far enough to do it themselves.

Lucky and Flo started their work in Malaysia on 13 March and found fame after sniffing

out a massive shipment of illegal DVDs in an office in a southern Johor state on 19 March.

The dogs detected the hidden discs behind locked doors, which officials broke down to

discover a cache of nearly one million DVDs worth $2.8million (£1.4million). Five

Malaysians and a man from Vietnam were arrested in the operation.

Young woman grows nipple on her foot

A 22-year-old woman sought medical care for a lesion in the plantar region of her left foot, a well-formed nipple surrounded by areola and hair. Microscopic examination of the dermis showed hair follicles, eccrine glands, and sebaceous glands. Fat tissue was noted at the base of the lesion. Clinical and histopathologic findings were consistent with the diagnosis of supernumerary breast tissue, also known as pseudomamma. To our knowledge, this is the first report of supernumerary breast tissue on the foot.

These supernumerary breasts can pop up all over the place, including the face, back, and thigh (and foot, obviously). They can be functionally complete, and can even lactate. The authors report some weak and sometimes contradicted associations with other oddities, but no causal mechanism is known. These cases of autonomous self-organization and recruitment of organs are extremely interesting—it suggests that a breast would be a fairly easy tissue to grow in a dish.

Global Warming. Is it real ?

I received this E-Mail from a reader requesting me to blog about Global Warming.
I hope you are satisfy with the explanation below.

The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon, but human activities, like the burning of fossil fuels, can pour enormous volumes of these gases into the atmosphere, raising the planet’s temperature and destabilizing the climate.

Manmade greenhouse gases have contributed to hotter days and nights, and more of them, more killer heat waves than before, heavier rainfall more often, major droughts in more regions, stronger and more frequent cyclones and “increased incidence” of extremely high sea levels.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1. Introduction

The greenhouse effect is responsible for the Earth’s warm, livable atmosphere. Gases like methane and carbon dioxide trap heat near the surface, keeping the Earth about 33 C (60 F) warmer than it would be without its natural blanket of protective gas. The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon, but human activity can enhance its effect and destabilize the climate.

2. Gases

Water vapor, methane, carbon dioxide, CFCs, ozone and nitrous oxide are all greenhouse gases (GHGs). Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most important, followed in descending order by methane, CFCs, ozone and nitrous oxide.

Climate scientists say human activities that pour enormous volumes of these gases into the atmosphere are raising the planet’s temperature.

3. Sun

The sun sends energy toward Earth in the form of light and radiation. We experience solar radiation as light and warmth on a sunny day

4. Atmosphere

When the sun’s rays strike the atmosphere, some of the radiation is immediately reflected into space.

The radiation that gets through the atmosphere heads toward the Earth’s surface.

5. Earth

Solar radiation that passes through the Earth’s clear atmosphere is absorbed by the ground, water, plants and other objects. As the sun warms objects, they emit infrared radiation. This is the energy we know as heat.

A portion of the solar radiation that reaches the Earth’s surface — particularly areas covered by ice, snow or the ocean — also bounces back into space, where its heat energy dissipates.

6. Heat and gases

Molecules of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere absorb infrared radiation and release heat, which raises the temperature of the ground and air and warms the Earth’s surface.

Infrared radiation has a longer wavelength than visible light, so it is easier for molecules like carbon dioxide and water vapor to absorb energy and trap the sun’s energy beneath Earth’s atmosphere.

7. Into space

Some infrared radiation continues on its path out of the atmosphere and into space.

The energy the sun sends to the entire Earth averaged over a whole year is roughly 343 watts per square meter. When that energy hits the Earth’s surface, some of it is absorbed and some of it is reflected back into the atmosphere. The net outgoing energy — that is, radiation that goes back into space — is 240 of the original 343 watts per square meter.

The popularity of the Internet has led to the recent widespread outbreaks of computer viruses. Viruses have become so widespread that they are now mentioned in newspapers and network news programs. It is extremely important for anyone who uses a computer to be aware of viruses, especially when accessing the Internet. Viruses can be carried in anything from a floppy disk to an email message. About a million computers worldwide are infected with a virus every day. If your computer becomes infected with a virus, you could loose all of the data on your hard drive.

Some hints for preventing virus infections, spyware, malware, adware:

Don'ts

Never use disks from an untrustworthy source

Never download files from a site or person that you don't trust

Never open an email that looks unusual or suspicious

Never open an email attachment from a person you don't know

Never open an email attachment that looks unusual or suspicious

Never visit any porn site

Do's

Paste "Ang Kong Hu" on your notebook or on desktop CPU or Monitor.Refer to pic above.
You must recite the following mantra above to be effective. It works for me

Scan disks and zip disks before using them

Use a real-time virus scanner or frequently check your system with an online virus scanner and spyware/malware scanner

When using a real-time virus scanner,spyware/malware scanner, download updates every week

Backup important files often

Use personal firewall software to prevent unauthorized Internet access to and from your computer

Use of the RTF (Rich Text Format) file format preserves document content and formatting AND reduces the spread of viruses. The Word .doc format has been a popular target for those creating viruses

PENANG: 2,400 snakes for sale

The 2,400 banded rat snakes seized by the state Wildlife and National Parks Department are up for sale.

State Wildlife and National Parks Department director Hasnan Yusop, however, said only licensed exporters and importers of wild animals would be allowed to bid for the reptiles.

He said the snakes could not be released into the wild here because that would disrupt the ecosystem.

“We cannot simply release such a great number of snakes into the natural habitat in Penang or anywhere else in the country.
